Official testing is crucial in maintaining the breed’s health and vitality. In particular, hip dysplasia, heart disease, and elbow dysplasia are common concerns in large dog breeds like the Cane Corso. By subjecting our breeding dogs to rigorous testing protocols, we aim to:
- Identify and mitigate any potential issues.
- Safeguard the well-being of our puppies.

Testing for Canine Hip Dysplasias (CHD)
Promoting the best, long-term musculoskeletal health of all our puppies, we proudly adhere to the standards set by organizations like the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and PennHIP for hip testing. These tests evaluate the hip joint’s integrity and can identify potential dysplastic changes early on. By only breeding dogs with excellent hip scores, we reduce the risk of hip dysplasia in our puppies.
Elbow Dysplasia Testing
Another common orthopedic issue in larger breeds, elbow dysplasia, is another top priority in our testing regimen. By screening for elbow dysplasia using radiographs and an OFA evaluation, we ensure that our breeding dogs have sound elbow joints, reducing the risk of lameness and discomfort in their offspring.
Heart Health Testing
Heart health is another area of focus in our breeding program. We conduct OFA evaluations to assess cardiac function and detect any abnormalities. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the most common heart condition for the Corso and can have devastating effects. DCM is defined as the “disease of a dog’s heart muscle and results in an enlarged heart” making it harder for the heart to pump. But with thorough testing, we proactively minimize the prevalence of such diseases in our Corso bloodlines.
